Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's tallest statue of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31, 2018. October 31 also
marks the 143rd birth, anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,
the Ironman of India. Named as the 'Statue of Unity', competition in focusthe statue constructed on Sadhubet island at Sardar Sarovar
Dam near Kevadia Colony in Bharuch district of Gujarat.

The foundation stone of the Statue of Unity was laid down by
then Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi ben Patel on October
31, 2014 on the occasion of Sardar-Patel's 139th birth
anniversary. The
construction work of the project was awarded
to leading engineering company,
Larsen and Toubro.

occupies over 20000 square metres, and is
surrounded by a 12 square km

The total height of the statue from its base was 240 m consisting
base level of 58 m and statue of 182 m. It is constructed
with steel framing, competitionfocus rein fOrced cement concrete and
bronze cladding. The statue needed 75000 cubic metres of
concrete, 5700 tonnes of steel - structure, 18500 tonnes
of reinforced steel rods, 22500
tonnes of bronze sheets for construction.
